06/21/16 - On June 13, 1996 the Governor General of Canada declared June 21 as “National Aboriginal Day”. A day for First Nations across the country to stand together, in unity, as sovereign Nations - celebrating our culture, heritage and identity while raising awareness of our shared history with Canada.
Since the declaration, Six Nations of the Grand River has celebrated every June 21 with Solidarity Day. Nia:weh to everyone that came down to Chiefswood Park this year to celebrate with us! As host of this annual event, the Elected Council is proud to continue the traditional picnic and activities for the community of Six Nations. The day was full of great food, music, and fun. A huge thanks to all of the vendors in attendance, and a special thanks to Grand River Enterprises for their generous donation of the free midway, cotton candy, and candy apples. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
