RBC Bank Notes Bring their Soulful Groove to Solidarity Day 2012
06/25/12 – Not even a blistering, oppressive, sweltering heat wave could keep people away from the annual Solidarity Day celebration at Chiefswood Park.

At the opening of the celebration, Chief William Montour welcomed all who attended. He also spoke about the Six Nations Talent Showcase on July 17. Admission is free. He also thanked Grand River Enterprises for their free donation of the midway.

Then Councillor Ross Johnson opened the annual potluck barbecue with a blessing of the food and all in attendance.

As people made their way to the serving line for their hot dog or hamburger and salad, Chief Montour introduced the RBC Bank Notes who performed recently on the Canada Sings television program.

Just as they did on Canada Sings, the RBC Bank Notes performed a mash up of Marvin Gaye (Let’s Get It On) and Barrett Strong (Money) on Solidarity Day. The Bank Notes won a $15,000 donation for the TV performance and that was topped up by another $10,000. The Ohsweken branch also raised $2,000.

Food bank coordinator Jennifer Hill accepted the donations on behalf of the Six Nations Food Bank. Then she called the original AGAPE members up on stage to be recognized for their efforts in launching the original food bank.

And donations kept on coming forward. Fred Doolittle presented a cheque from K L Martin and Associates for $2,000 plus an additional cheque for $20,000 for the Food Bank Building fund.

All total at Solidarity Day 2012, the Six Nations Food Bank saw donations of roughly $50,000.
