Possible Six Nations Youth Council Gaining Momentum

07/03/14 – The Third meeting was held in the Sports Den of the Community Hall as slowly but surely Six Nations Youth are starting to plant the seeds of what will eventually grow into a group that has the feel of Six Nations Youth Council.

The formation of this group has been well received as at their Solidarity Day 2014 Booth many people stopped by to offer well wishes and signed up to receive and/or be part of future meetings and initiatives this group will explore.

Committed to improving life for their fellow youth on Six Nations this group have begun identifying initiatives and goals that they would like to follow through on and achieve.

Some initiatives that were discussed in their previous meeting include: preserving our language and culture; preventing young kids from being overweight and getting diabetes through the promotion of staying physically active and eating healthier traditional foods; partnering with youth from Caledonia to hold events that will heal old wounds; cleaning up the community; and getting involved with the First Nations fly-in communities in Northern Ontario to help them with their struggles.

Some of the initiatives looked at in this meeting include coming up with a prospective name that represents all Six Nations Youth and their goals. As noteworthy attendance has increased from the previous meeting.
